Pillowmen

Pillowman 04:27
Oh Michal Brother Michal, now it’s time for you to sleep It’s only you and me, and seven years Of memories. The echo of a child’s scream And smell of sickness still haunt me. You’re slow Across the edges, on the uptake, all around So Michal Brother Michal, say good night and rest Your head upon the ground Dearest Mother My dark Mother, sleeping soundly Down the well. Please remember, so Dismembered, every fairy tale you'd tell Did your art excuse the fashion? Did it justify the means and twisted torture That your oldest son endured before I put you both to sleep? Our Father Fascist Father, floating freely underground Rest in peaceful little pieces with the one you Love and I will make you proud with every Last fantastic fable that was never fit for print Oh Father Our Father, pardon please your thrice Named child of your first and greatest sin But I'll just keep on smiling until I am not alive, alive, oh Pillowman please take my hand And squeeze me—softly, sweetly Until I die Now I'm lying alone I'm dying unknown I'll roam and roam 'til I'm the bone of your bone Poison my drink If I sleep, snore, or wink Once forgetting to think Of your lying alone Now I'm bothered and dead So keep alone in my head All the things that she said Wore the heart of a stone Now I'm lying alone You're dying unknown I'll roar and I'll groan 'til I'm all skin and bones Until I die Alive

Thom Dunn Boston, Massachusetts

Thom Dunn is a Boston-based writer, musician, & new media artist. He enjoys Oxford commas, metaphysics, and romantic clichés (especially when they involve whiskey), and he firmly believes that Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" is the single greatest atrocity committed against mankind. He is a graduate of Clarion Writer's Workshop at UCSD & Emerson College. thomdunn.net ... more
